I was so excited when postman Andy dropped a book shaped package into my mail box last week. Eagerly awaited, I unwrapped the packaging to find drape drape, a Japanese pattern making book by Hisako Sato. I’ve been rather unmotivated to create my own patterns of late and this appears to be the perfect alternative.

Hello there,
I’m back from my holiday to Italy and feeling pretty inspired! I played tourist for 12 days around Florence and Tuscany with lots of walking, cramped car journeys and finally found time to devour Burnt Shadows by Kamila Shamsie. I don’t read nearly as much as I should.
Prior to my trip, I had been working on a collection heavily inspired by marble stone columns, grand Renaissance interiors and Romanesque carvings and sculpture. Italy has done well to fuel my fascination.

I thought I’d share a collection of images from one of my dyeing experiments some few months ago. The simple techniques were just an excuse to familiarise myself with the dyeing process and gain some confidence. Taking inspiration from pink carnations and a vibrant slice of pink agate, I chose to work with silk jersey, feathers and a silky nylon-mix fabric to start.
