from the earth
Nature, then, in this its simplest acceptation, is a collective name for all facts, actual and possible,
…a collective name for everything which is.” – John Stuart Mill

Painted Hills, Oregon
Named after the colourful layers of hills corresponding to various geological eras, the Painted Hills formed when the area was an ancient river floodplain. An abundance of fossil remains of early horses, camels, and rhinoceroses makes the area particularly important to vertebrate paleontologists. via

The coloured mountains of Landmannalaugar, Iceland
The area is made of rhyolitic lava, high in silica and therefore the lava has a low viscosity and the resulting rock a light color. The colors are due to hydrothermal activity, the red and orange being due to iron, and the blue color being due to sulphur. via
The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
Exposure to the elements caused the rocks to change colors. The rocks are oxidizing and in effect, the canyon is rusting.
The Wave, Arizona
The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located near the Arizona and Utah border on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes. Made of Jurassic-age Navajo Sandstone, approximately 190 million years old, erosion by wind and rain has created the spectacular landscape which now appears. via

Lands of Emptiness (detail) 2000-2002
2250 sheets of Houshoshi-paper, acrylic board
left: installation by Lee Bul / right: Lanvin Spring/Summer 2010
Elaborate sculptures and installations are crafted from twisted metal, decked in crystal beads and chains, set in mirrored boxes or hung from the ceiling like castles in the air. Hectic and gorgeous, they suggest another kind of post-human world, where shimmering modernist buildings lie in seductive ruin. text via
A deep meander of the San Juan River as viewed from Goosenecks State Park, Utah.
Millions of years ago, the Monument Upwarp forced the river to carve incised meanders over 1,000 feet (305 meters) deep as the surrounding landscape slowly rose in elevation. Eroded by water, wind, frost, and gravity, this is a classic location for observing incised meanders. via
Linear-Actions Cutting Project by Noriko Ambe
“Using the five senses, perceiving the natural qualities of the materials, I found that I am concerned less about the end, and more about “doing”. The process of creating is equally as important as the finished work.” Noriko Ambe
Antelope Canyon, Arizona
Formed by flash floods and rainwater running into the extensive basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors deeper and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock.

“Moule” by Valerie Collart
French artist Valerie Collart creates sculptures and installations which she uses to explore structure and chaos, depicting a variety of forms that represents man-made and natural things. Collart explores the idea of surfaces giving a false impression to an objects contents, contradicting our impression of its volume. This is most apparent in her large sculpture ‘rock’, which appears to be a solid mass from one angle and a hollow shell from another. text via
Pyrite: derived from the Greek word for fire (pyr), which refers to the sparks that are produced when it is struck with a hammer.
right: Valerie Hegarty, Unearthed, 2007, mixed media
“I like that idea of a painting sprouting from nature, along the lines of early American landscape painting, when artists tried to show that God was present in the spiritually-imbued American landscape, as opposed to European ruin. There was this implication that paintings were naturally born out of that space. So I started thinking about how a painting can literally be born out of nature.” Valerie Hegarty via

Doublet Pool is a hot spring in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
Occasionally, Doublet produces periodic vibrations underfoot, surface wave motion, and audible thumping. This is most likely the result of collapsing gas and steam bubbles deep underground. text via

I'm not really an artist, but I can say this work is absolutely good! I've seen some necklaces made from brass. Sometimes, you get confused which is antique and which is not. I think brass materials are also fit for this concept because its color is very earthy. I learned this from my sister. Although I'm not into fashion world, I learn this stuff because she keeps on talking about the arts and fashion including matching colors. When I was searching for some brass suppliers, my sister was the one who guided me because she's always involved in making crafts (whether accessories or clothes). Even in choosing good quality brass tubes, she also guided me.
