petals and pastels

Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) was a German instructor of sculpture who used his remarkable photographs of plant studies to educate his students about design elements in nature. Self-taught in photography, he devoted himself to the study of nature, photographing nothing but flowers, buds and seed capsules for thirty-five years.

He once said, “The plant never lapses into mere arid functionalism; it fashions and shapes according to logic and suitability, and with its primeval force compels everything to attain the highest artistic form.” via Soulcatcher Studio

Scientists have recently discovered a rare, solitary type of bee that makes tiny little nests by plastering together flower petals. Each nest is a multicolored, textured little cocoon – a papier-mache husk surrounding a single egg, and protecting it while it metamorphoses into an adult.

I’m trying to shake off my penchant for pastels…. it’s not working. On a slightly more exciting note, I have a new online shop launching this coming July! I’ll be posting some sneak peeks of what to expect over the next few posts. If you would like to be notified when the new shop launches please sign up to my mailing list here or in the blog side bar. My etsy shop will also be undergoing a much need makeover. I’m very excited, can’t wait to show you all!

Beautiful post!!! I keep having this thought too – every summer I try and dress more like a Wang-esque cool girl, but it just doesn't work. All I want to do is wear pastels, white, pompoms and flowers!

Let me know when you have some new necklaces by the way, I can't wait to have my own (instead I keep clicking on here to stare at them)
